Making a scene in New Mexico's film industry.

The New Mexico Media Arts Collective will serve as an industry nexus. Our goal is to nurture a new generation of creative talent in New Mexico. We aim to support students in developing the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the film and television industry while bridging critical ecosystem connections.

Serving New Mexico's film and media industry.

Gov. Lujan Grisham with support from state legislators and the City of Albuquerque have allocated $40 million in capital and operating funds to build an initiative that will serve the state's thriving film and television industry. This model supports a collaborative group of institutions within the statewide media industry - universities , production companies, local arts organizations, film and media corporate partners that offer professional courses in film, television, and digital entertainment - with an aim to meet the increasing need for professional training in the industry as New Mexico continues to flourish as a media hub.

Local impact.

This collective aims to meet the increasing need for a growing professional crew base in the industry as New Mexico film production spending reached an all-time high of $855.4 million in fiscal year 2022, an increase of 36% over fiscal year 2021. A record 109 productions (55 film and 54 television) were filmed across the state last year, including AMC’s Better Call Saul, Netflix’s Stranger Things, FOX’s The Cleaning Lady, Peacock’s MacGruber, and Amazon’s Outer Range. Media teams and filmmakers require resources and services from local businesses (food and beverage, logistical and equipment rentals, housing, transportation, travel, and leisure), so all ships will rise with the tide.
